Fabio Salgado

I've always enjoyed understanding how things work and figuring out how to make them work better. My experience has taken me from hands-on technical support to building embedded systems, digital hardware, and signal-processing applications, giving me the opportunity to work across both hardware and software. I enjoy taking what I learn and turning it into practical projects that challenge me to solve problems, learn new technologies, and build something real.

My Past

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, I moved to Georgia, USA, at the age of 13. Growing up in a diverse environment and adapting to an international transition taught me how to connect and communicate with people from many different backgrounds.

I began my college journey at Berry College, where I embraced Martha Berry’s philosophy of educating the “head, heart, and hands.” This experience shaped my approach to learning, collaboration, and personal growth. During my time at Berry, I worked with Berry Information Technology Students (BITS) for three years, developing hands-on technical and problem-solving skills through hardware and software troubleshooting. I helped deploy PCs across nearly every building on campus and spent hundreds of hours working with faculty, staff, and students to provide technical support.

My Current Focus

Today, I am focused on taking that hands-on experience a step further by designing and building systems of my own. Through my studies and projects at Georgia Tech, I have explored embedded systems, digital signal processing, computer architecture, and digital design, combining hardware and software to solve practical problems. I particularly enjoy projects that require me to understand a system at multiple levels, from individual components and low-level programming to communication, processing, and the final user experience.

As I continue developing as an engineer, I am looking for opportunities to apply these skills to real-world challenges, learn from experienced engineers, and contribute to technologies that are both technically interesting and practically useful.
